Which screw?
You would typically use a VESA mount, which would attach to the TV with M6 or M8 screws as directed in the TV manual, and #10 2 1/2" pan head wood screws if it is a wood stud, a self tapping screw appropriate for metal if a metal stud, or Tapcons for masonry.
If it was me I would hate to see my tv fall to the floor so I would get a screw big enough to hold it better safe than sorry. make sure you drill a pilot hole first so you don’t crack the stud.
I don’t get it. Why put screws through your tv screen?
You’ll want to use at least a #12 that’s 3 inches long. Personally I’d use a 1/4 inch. Also take care to properly locate the stud and make sure to drill a pilot hole first.
There may be a more scientific answer but I would just use a screw that is just big enough to fit through the pre-drilled holes in the mount. Usually those holes are sized to fit the right screw. In other words, use the biggest screw that will fit through the holes.
As far as the length goes, you will want a screw that is long enough to go through the mount through the wall board and then well into the stud if not all the way through the stud right up to the wall board on the other side. You will have to measure this to figure out the screw length.
If you do those two steps, you basically are using the biggest screw that is practical for your installation.
